Culture Wars Austin, TX.
Culture wars combine the fist-pumping goodness of Bruce Springsteen with the vibrant color palette and instrumentation of the 80s. Their self-titled EP was released earlier this month, which you can stream below.
It was 3am at the studio just outside of El Paso, and all of us were drinking Russian vodka chased with a bite of pickles. We had this super unique opportunity to be out at Sonic Ranch where they’ve religiously hoarded the best vintage year for each guitar amp imaginable. Mic decided to set up 3 different amps all facing the same direction with multiple room mics centered in the room. He was finishing overdubs on a different song when all of a sudden, this super random feedback noise began happening through the Vox amp. I immediately jumped up and begged our producer Rob to start recording the feedback on a new track. It was then that we cut the entire song that night, which would later be titled “Money.” It started as this loud-pumping dance track and, as the night went on, began to morph into what it is now. It wasn’t until noon the next day, when we woke up, that we realized what we had recorded. Thank God for Sonic Ranch and thank God for Rob Fraboni (different story all together).
