WITH THE BLOOD THAT DIRE STRAITS GOT BOILING I PRESSED HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL
Joshua James American Fork, UT.
Joshua James makes neo-folk inspired by the mad moments in life. His album My Spirit Sister was released earlier this year. After seeing James leave the audience in a mesmerized state at Hangout Fest, we definitely recommend seeing him live.
It was late at night, I can’t recall the exact month but i do remember that it was during the cold season. It is a strange feeling when the majority of each one of your senses gets overtaken by the soundscape in which it is engulfed. I was speeding down a back road in Utah, slightly out of my mind, feeling invincible and slightly confused. Dire Strait’s song “Sultans of Swing” came on the radio and for whatever reason that song always makes me feel like I am escaping from some massive, slightly unethical but not entirely, crime, you know? Like a bank robbery where no one is hurt. I mean, hell, it’s just some money. Anyhow, I am racing down this backroad, and the Dire Straits song just kicks in. I see up ahead the flashing lights of railroad crossing. Now, at this point i had two options. Option 1: Slow down and wait for the train to pass. Option 2: Speed up and pray to the powers of the land that I make it past the tracks before the train smashes me into the rails. With the blood that Dire Straits got boiling I pressed hard on the gas pedal and clipped, barely, the rails of the lowering safety arms. The feeling of music and recklessness pulsed through my veins and yet again I was reminded of the POWER of the song. THE MIGHTY MIGHTY POWER.
