We never thought Playlistplay would become what it is today. When we started this company 4 years ago, we never thought we would be a recognized name throughout the KC music community, let alone the US and various other parts of the world. We never thought we would be able to premiere songs from bands all across the globe, photograph concerts from artists foundational to each of us, and build some of the most important relationships we have ever made. All through Playlistplay.
Four years is a long time to be doing something; high school, college, dating that one ex. Four years is a space of time in which change is inevitable and when growth is hoped for. It’s a space of time that provides challenge and success, love and heartbreak. We haven’t gotten a diploma out of running Playlistplay for 4 years, but we have had all of the above. We have made memories we will never forget and that is priceless.
Effective today, Playlistplay will no longer be publishing new content.
We want to end things while they are good. It’s like when your favorite band breaks up before they have the chance to put out a trash record. We want to remember where we are now: more visitors to the website that we ever could have imagined, hundreds of playlists made, dozens of talented contributors who are honestly out of our league, personal relationships with bands that we have to hold back fangirling in front of. This is what we want to remember. So it’s time to put away the band t-shirt before it gets too worn out.
No need to miss us, we are still working in some super cool projects. Guestlist will continue to be a place where you can discover new festivals across the US. We’ll also have a new project launching, a food blog called Bands & Bowls. Please continue to support these brands as we do the same. Our journey is not over.
You all mean a lot to us and we cannot emphasize how much we appreciate your support, your inclusivity, and your general love for music. You each mean so much as a part of this community and we couldn’t have done any of this without you.
This is a huge change, and one that affects each of us in different ways. It’s going to leave a massive gap in our lives. With that empty space, amazing things with find a place to incubate, grow, and blossom; and we couldn’t be more excited.
Thank you for making this something that we will never forget.
