In preparation for their sophomore album Not To Disappear, which releases January 15 on Glassnote records, Daughter has been getting it’s loyal fans excited with a few tracks from the new album. The latest being the single “Numbers,” which premiered yesterday on NPR Music via a haunting and darkly real video.

The song itself discusses what it’s like to walk through life and not entirely notice what is around you; to not feel the world around you because you are numb to your surroundings. The video depicts a red dress-wearing seductress who navigates the night streets of a darkened city while passing occurrences that would normally give someone pause: a man choking during dinner or a girl who sits battered on a park bench. The main character, played by English actress Natasha O’Keeffe, walks past most of these events without pause up until the video’s gruesome end.

Daughter frontwoman Elena Tonra told NPR via email “‘Numbers’ was written in the spring of 2014 in London, based on a scribbled poem I had written at the end of summer in 2013. The song describes a lack of emotional connection towards other people — how it feels to not feel anything at all.”

The first track released from the album entitled “Do The Right Thing” was also accompanied by a deeply thoughtful video focusing on the passage of time, the reproductive cycle, and the loss of life–not in the form of death, but in the form of a missing memory.
