LIVE REVIEW + GALLERY: MIGUEL

ECHO BEACH / TORONTO, ON

LIVE REVIEW + GALLERY: MIGUEL (ECHO BEACH / TORONTO, ON)
August 28, 2018 Jackson Fleming

Illuminating Toronto on the second-half of his “Ascension” tour, Miguel drew one of the largest crowds Echo Beach has seen in quite some time. With charming looks and moves that channel his inner Michael Jackson, Miguel surely is the Swiss Army Knife of R&B.

Coming out to an eruption of screams and applause by the swarms of people, Miguel stood on a raised stairway as his band shined below. With a stage production that truly matches the caliber and showmanship he’s known for, Miguel had the masses buzzing as he started the night off with “Criminal” off of his latest LP, War & Leisure. As Miguel danced around up top and the dazzling visuals radiated off the screen behind him, wide-eyed adoration was clearly visible from every swooning attendee’s face.

Following this opening, Miguel jumped down from his platform and came to the front of the stage for his next song, “The Thrill”. Grabbing his mic stand that was adorned in white and black leather, Miguel hit every note with apparent ease, proving just how powerful of a performer he is. A setlist that comprised of songs from his entire discography dating back to All I Want Is You, Miguel’s 90 minute performance was truly spectacular. Although his show comprised of numerous high-points, the highlight for me had to be when Miguel closed out the night with his encore of “Skywalker”. Arguably one of the most popular tracks off War & Leisure, Miguel’s encore saw the R&B icon truly “ascend” to the top of the list when it comes to one of the best shows Echo Beach has hosted.
