With the release of The Heist, the world was introduced to the immensely talented duo of true-to-his-life rapper Macklemore and best friend / orchestral guru Ryan Lewis. We got to learn about the personal struggles and successes behind the music, saw fans of all walks groove to their tunes, and see a truly handcrafted album get released independently and go on to win multiple Grammys. Regardless of one’s opinion, that’s all pretty darn impressive. That album was released back in 2012, though. For those awaiting the next Macklemore & Ryan Lewis chapter, you’re in luck: the duo has officially announced their sophomore release. On February 29, the Seattle rap royalty will release This Unruly Mess I Made.

The two released a video on their website / social media featuring vivid cinematography and Macklemore’s voice narrating over it, telling of how they didn’t really know what to do after the success and release of The Heist and the paths(s) that eventually lead them to This Unruly Mess I Made.

There is creativity for validation. And there is creativity for survival. They are very different places. I didn’t know what I wanted to say. Didn’t know how the ink would stick to the page. How to let go of the anxiety and suffocating fear that latched on to my vocal cords. I had to figure out how to use my voice again. So, we went ghost. The Irish Goodbye, into the woods, in the dead of winter. We bought a 1985 Suburban, loaded up some equipment and left town.

Give the video a watch below and check out the album artwork as well. And be sure to see the group as they continue their rather extensive tour in a city near you.
