Chicago-based sad songsmiths Real Friends love Long Beach living acoustic pop-punk duo This Wild Life. And This Wild Life loves Real Friends. To celebrate this beautiful musicianship, the two bands have joined forces like some extravagant pop-punk Voltron and put out a split EP of one band covering the other.

Real Friends took on This Wild Life’s “Looking Back,” which starts with the poppy, acoustic guitar strumming of the original song, then bursts into the slightly louder, drum-fueled sound of a Real Friends’ tune. This Wild Life cast their mellow and fairytale like strumming onto Real Friends’ “Loose Ends,” taking the energetic tempo of the song down a notch and giving more focus to the lyrics.

Both band’s have toured together and ended up bonding while on the road. On recording covers of each other’s bands, Real Friends bassist Kyle Fasel told Alternative Press, where the two songs premiered, “For some reason we never latched onto that idea until this, but when the idea came up to cover a song from This Wild Life, it was different. They are more acoustic based while we are a little more energetic. We felt as if the dynamic of covering each other’s songs went beyond most covers bands have done. Not to mention we are huge fans of the band. It was a nice change of pace for us. We were really satisfied with the way everything turned out.”
