Boulevard Brewery’s Tours and Recreation Center was shut down early this past Tuesday to make room for a special Sofar event. The large hall, containing 30 taps, a gift shop, and enough space for a pop-up concert played host to the latest Sofar KC show. Attendees got to taste test the new Tart Apple Radler, received courtesy drink tokens, and spent the night in one of the most unique event spaces KC has to offer.

The first artist, known only as Sauce, got everyone fired up with his blend of cool hip hop beats and surprise sax via VP3. He was able to keep people laughing with his between-song banter and cue card presentation of 90’s sitcom titles for “Childhood Crush” – a song about how his crush was a culmination of all the best leading ladies from the 90’s.

Second Chance, named so because the duo had previously broken up before reuniting, serenaded us with soft, romantic ballads. Their cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” smoothly transitioned into “L.O.V.E” and back again, adding a touch of fun to timeless classics. Love was the driving force behind all of their songs, one of which was even written on their recent honeymoon.

The final performer of the night was Mackenzie Nicole. No stranger to blowing crowds away with her voice, she’s been lending her vocal talents to Tech N9ne tracks for a few years. Her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” is one of the best I’ve recently heard, and her own original pieces insert deeper meaning into the pop genre. Mackenzie Nicole gifted us with more than her voice, though. Guests received swag bags (courtesy of Strange Music) with gifts running the gambit from chapstick to giant comfy blankets.

All of the great artists and incredible extra perks made this a night not to miss.

Sofar Sounds KC would like to thank it’s sponsors: Playlistplay, GuestlistFine Dining ProductionsNight In Media and the hosts, Boulevard Brewing Company.
