Rowdy rockers Speedy Ortiz took to Facebook today to announce a new supporting act they are bringing on the remainder of their tour, but it’s not who (or what) you would think. No, not an opening band, but a support hotline for fans attending the band’s shows who feel like they are being harassed or generally feel unsafe at a live show. The band posted this to Facebook along with a larger image with details on the hotline (which you can see below).

“We’re back on the road today, but we’re bringing something new with us: (574) 404-SAFE, our help hotline you can text if you are being harassed or feel unsafe at a Speedy Ortiz show.Texts will go to us and we will work with venue security to try and get you out of harm’s way. It’s a new system we’re trying out and we’re sure it will require tweaks along the way, but we hope in the long run it can make our shows safer and more fun for everyone. We love you all.”

In an atmosphere that continues to get more rambunctious and can occasionally hold some less than favorable personalities, Speedy Ortiz are looking to provide a more comfortable environment for their fans to enjoy their music. Kudos to the band for not just seeing a problem and noting it, but acting to better the situation. Check out the full statement by the band below and be sure to check them out on tour as well.
