"Playing a performing, writing every part of the art form is magic."

Benjamin Cook / The Underhill Family Orchestra

The Underhill Family Orchestra
Mobile, AL

The Underhill Family Orchestra is a rowdy, enthusiasticly heart-felt rock n roll band from Mobile, AL. Combining elements of unique vocal stylings with soulful beats and rambunctious instrumentation, their live performances keep you dancin’ all night and leave you tappin’ your toes on the way home.

Music has always been the way I expressed myself. When I was young, I used to sing in church. My family traveled around to different churches and my little brother and I would sing specials for the service while my older sister would play piano. I’ve done that since as long as I can remember.

I’ve always loved to sing and would eat up any kind of music I could get my hands on. When I reached my teenage years I struggled with some anger issues. Not too bad, just your normal teenage hormonal stuff. When my 15th birthday rolled around or Christmas that year, I don’t remember which, I asked my parents for a punching bag. Anytime I had a fight or got angry, I would go downstairs and hit that bag till I had nothing left. I thought it would help, but I was only every more frustrated and angry and out of breath.

The next year I decided I wanted to learn guitar. When I was 16 I bought my first guitar from a guy in my church for $50. That was it. As soon as I learned 3 chords I had a song written. That was the start. Music and songwriting have always been the soothing, therapeutic thing that has kept me focused and at peace. Playing a performing, writing every part of the art form is magic.
