Domino Record Co. artist Your Friend, from the great town of Lawrence, Kansas, and the moniker of Taryn Miller, took to Facebook yesterday to tease fans with a snippet of what appears to be a new song. Clocking in at only 15 seconds, it doesn’t offer too much but it’s enough to send a bit of a shiver down your spine. The small sampling features Miller’s slightly processed vocals with a humming guitar accompanied by blinking, out of focus and colorful video.

If you’re curious as to why Miller goes by Your Friend, the Domino website offers a rather wonderful explanation:

“When asked to explain why she calls herself Your Friend, Miller tells the story of driving four hours to see Daniel Johnston, the charismatic outsider musician who wrestles with mental illness. Alone and open to whatever experience would happen, Miller found herself swapping deeply personal life stories with strangers at the concert. Waiting for hours after the show, Miller eventually got to meet Johnston himself. “It was really humbling to meet someone who I deeply respected, but still introduced himself,” Miller said.  “There is something special about that, a connection.”

Miller works at Love Garden Sounds in downtown Lawrence, a killer record shop staffed by adorable cats, when she’s not playing in her other thousand bands. If you haven’t gotten a chance to listen to her music before, check out her debut EP Jekyll/Hyde below. And if you only have time for one track, focus in on the slow burner “Tame One.”
